"If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.” (J.R.R. Tolkien, author of 'Lord of the Rings' 1892-1973) |

After a long
hike, mountain bike, round of golf or even a camping trip eating
marshmallows (or mahlows as many have come to call the white puffs of
sugar often found roasting over coals in a campground) and Dinty Moore
stew for three days you always look forward to a good well prepared
meal, or at least a tasty snack until you get home. Some of our
favorites:
The Fudge Factory has the best fudge and confections around. By around not just in Georgia but their fresh homemade fudge and dark and white chocolate covered strawberries are incredible. We discovered this little shop in Dahlonega, GA after our kayak trip down the Etowah. We were starving, exhausted and in need of some quick energy to get home. All the restaurants were closed or closing in downtown, so we decided to put dinner off and have dessert. And what a dessert it was. Strawberry cheesecake fudge, Pralines and Cream fudge, Dark Chocolate Truffles, Divinity, White Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups, and finally White and Dark Chocolate covered Strawberries one kind for each of us. The Broadway Diner on Hwy 138 has a great variety of desserts, displayed prominently they make your mouth start to water until you start to eat a huge serving of cake or pie and then you are really satiated. The Broadway Diner specializes in huge portions of everything. Whether you are having a Bucket of Fried Chicken, a "Gigantic Nachos" , an "All American Burger, or just a Caesar Salad you will definitely get your fill. You have to try their "Greek Beef Gyros", they are just like you get in Europe. But only order one meal for two people so you can try some of their cheesecake, cannolis, Boston cream cake, red velvet cake or coconut cream cake. Some more of our favorites around Atlanta: Pizza - Mama Mia - Main Street Stone Mountain Homewrecker - Moes strewn all throughout Atlanta area Pho - Thai Restaurant - Hwy 42/23 Stockbridge, GA
