COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH GRANTS

GUIDELINES AND SUBMISSION PROCESS

 

PROPOSAL: The Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy & Capitalism has an ongoing program to solicit research proposals and fund research. The initiative provides support for collaborative research projects involving faculty members and students. The projects must focus on themes related to free enterprise and political economy (broadly defined).

 

FUNDING: Up to five grants will be awarded per year. Faculty members will receive $2,000 per project; students will receive $1,000. Awards will be split into two halves; the first half will be paid when applications are selected, and the second half will be paid when completed projects are received.

 

ELIGIBILITY: All Mercer University faculty members and students are encouraged to apply for funding.

 

APPLICATION DEADLINES: January 15, 2010 application deadline; August 16, 2010 manuscript deadline; Successful applicants will be notified on March 1, 2010. 

 

DISCLAIMERS: 1) Publication of project results, either in whole or part, must recognize the Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy & Capitalism support with the following statement "(Partial) funding for this project came from the Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy & Capitalism, Mercer University." 2) Investigators receiving awards are required to publish (at the time the manuscript is due) a one-page abstract of the project on the center webpage.

 

REPORT: A report of the outcome, such as a completed working paper or submission for publication is required by December 15, 2010.

 

PROCESS FOR APPLYING FOR RESEARCH ASSISTANCE:

 

For 2010 funding, submit your application by the application deadline of January 15, 2010. All applicants will be contacted regarding which research projects the initiative has decided to fund.

 

To be considered, you must submit:

  1. A completed application;

  2. Current curriculum vita from faculty member;

  3. The description of the project should include

    • Title of project

    • Purpose of the research

    • Methodology

    • Hypothesis or possible outcomes from the research

     

Proposals will be evaluated by the director of the Center for Undergraduate Research in Public Policy & Capitalism (Scott Beaulier), the associate dean of the Stetson School of Business & Economics (William S. Mounts), and an external faculty affiliate of the center (David Prychitko).

EVALUATION:

 

Research proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria:

 

Relevance of project to free enterprise (40 percent)

Quality of the proposal (30 percent)

Plan of operation (30 percent)
