Galapagos
The Galapagos Islands lie 960 kilometers west of the Ecuadorian coast. Thirteen main islands comprise this archipelago, along with six medium-sized ones and 42 rocky isles. These are constantly changing, both below and above the ocean waves. The wildlife on these isles basks in a gentle sun, surrounded by blue coastlines. To the joy and amazement of its visitors, one can there find the blue footed Booby, who uses its famously blue feet for -- not only swimming -- but for dancing and courting its mate.
For centuries, visitors have marveled at the wildlife of the Galapagos Islands. As Charles Darwin discovered during his famous voyage to the archipelago in 1835, the birds, reptiles, flora and marine life of the Galapagos are unique to the world. The volcanic ash that formed this "living laboratory" can still be found there, making amateur biologists out of the many visitors who make their way to these so-called Enchanted Isles.
