Taishi Ci of Laihuang was a filial son, dutiful to his mother. After serving Kong Rong for a short time he was an officer to Liu Yao. While in Liu Yao's service Sun Ce and Taishi Ci dueled to a draw, and later when Liu Yao was killed Taishi Ci switched allegiance to Sun Ce, becoming one of his most trustworthy and able generals. At the battle of He Fei he was ambushed by Zhang Liao and died from those wounds, grieving that he never did any great services to Wu.
