When we first meet him in Three Kingdoms, he is the adopted son of Ding Yuan, who is outspoken against the corruption of Dong Zhuo. Meeting Lu Bu, Dong Zhuo marveled at his talent. Li Su volunteered to go persuade Lu Bu to their side. Using one of the best horses ever bred, Red Hare, Li Su enticed Lu Bu to switch allegiances, and Lu Bu assented.
